ABOUT BHITARKANIKA
Bhitarkanika National Park is located in the estuarial region of Brahmani and Baitarani river in the north- eastern place of Kendrapara district of Odisha.
It also designated as second largest Ramsar site in Odisha. It is the second largest mangrove eco system in India. The park is home to the endangered salt water crocodile, white crocodile, Indian python, King cobra and Black Ibis.
The wildlife sanctuary has approx 215 species of birds including 08 varieties of Kingfishers birds. The sanctuary is also a prime habitat of Leopard Cat, Fishing Cat, Jungle Cat, Hyena, Wild Boar, Spotted Deer, Samber, Porcupine, Dolphin, Water Monitor Lizards etc.
The Bhitarkanika Sanctuary comprises vast mangrove forests, meandering rivers and creeks leading to tidal deltas. The park has 55 different varieties of Mangroves like Salai, Bamboo, Babul, Zizphus, Palas, Casuarines, Sundari, Bani etc. including many other species of flora and fauna.
